My goal as a teacher is to not only teach students academics, but to teach to the whole child and help children become educated, developed, and valuable members of society. They will problem solve, be challenged, build self-esteem, and see enormous leaps of personal growth. I want students to feel comfortable in the classroom and create a safe learning community where students are eager to learn. They will also take ownership of their academic success and pride in their work. I want them to understand that it is okay to make mistakes and that we learn together. I try to simulate the real world in any way I can.
Lastly, I believe it is essential to provide differentiated instruction to all students. I understand that every child is unique and learns in their own way. Each child will receive individualized instruction to help them grow on a personal level. This is done through small groups, one-to-one conferences, differentiated assignments, and more. I am not as worried about a grade as I am in seeing personal growth. I consider any improvement to be a success. My hope for students is that they learn to thrive both academically and socially throughout the school year and look back at 4th grade with only smiles and a positive experience!
